About University of Yangon


Established in 1920, the University of Yangon is Myanmar’s oldest university and a cornerstone of the country’s higher education system. Originally part of the University of Calcutta system, it evolved into Rangoon College before merging with Judson College to become Rangoon University. Today, it is a comprehensive institution offering degrees in humanities, sciences, law, and social sciences, and is expanding into interdisciplinary fields such as Environmental Studies, Water Resources, and GIS. With a student body of over 2,700 and a faculty of distinguished scholars, the university plays a central role in national development and education reform.
